Valentine's Day: Romance Novels

Wondering how to spend Valentine’s during a pandemic? Curl up with a good romance novel! Here are some favorites from the Buttoned Staff:

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte! This one is a classic. Follow Jane’s tumultuous life and love in this book that Buttoned’s Hope says is beautifully written and such a great story.

Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton! Here’s what Avery had to say about this love story set in Gilded-Age New York: “The plot developed so well, and the ending was not what I expected!”

Normal People by Sally Rooney! This book is a captivating story about two people who just keep finding each other. Greta says this book is unlike anything else she’s read. Bonus: there is a great Hulu show based on the book!

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier! Rebecca is the story of a newlywed who finds herself living in the shadow of her husband’s first wife. Hope loved this one for all of its twists and turns.

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen! We couldn’t have a list of romance novels without a selection by Jane Austen! Sense and Sensibility follows the romance of the Dashwood sisters. It is a lighthearted and sweet read, according to Avery.

Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Henry! For anyone who loves C.S. Lewis, and even those who don’t, this book is a beautiful depiction of unlikely romance. It tells the story of C.S. Lewis and his wife, Joy, in a narrative form. Greta says that reading this felt like falling in love.
