Sophomore Kaleigh Merriweather mixes her girly style with a twist of edginess and bold statements. She is known for her unique streetwear style. Kaleigh’s determination to make it big marketing for high-end brands makes her this week’s So Hot Right Now. 

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as Girly Tomboy. My day-to-day outfits weigh on the baggy side with a hint of edge or skin. It’s the best of both worlds kind of. What I’m willing to wear changes frequently but definitely stays in the girly tomboy realm. 

What is your dream job? 

My dream job is to do marketing or PR for a big brand like Prada or Fendi or a really small new brand. 

What made you get into fashion? 

I feel like life has propelled me this way. I grew up with my babysitter’s sewing. I had a second grade teacher who loved arts and crafts. I watched That’s so Raven , I’ve had Bratz dolls, I used to cut the sleeves off my shirts for my Build-a-Bear’s to wear. So, I just feel like my life has forced me into this amazing industry. 

If you could only have one item of clothing to wear every day what would it be? 

Ooo it would have to be an oversized hoodie, yeah, definitely. 

What is a necessity everyone needs in their closet? 

A necessity everyone needs is a good bodysuit. I feel like you can dress it up, dress it down, put a jacket on or wear it by itself. Yeah, that’s what everyone needs at least one of.

What kind of music do you listen to? 

I listen to all kinds of music. I listen to hip hop, country, pop, alternative, a little bit of rock, basically anything... If it gets stuck in my head, I’ll listen to it. 

What’s one piece of style advice you would give? 

Do your own thing. I think people get so caught up, even myself, in comparing yourself to others. It’s just not important, and there’s so many people who do the same thing. Do something different.
