Three Staff-Favorite Valentine's Day Movies

With Valentine’s Day being mere days away, we’re all thinking of ways in which we can make it special for ourselves or loved ones. Dining out, themed parties, and heart-shaped chocolates are all wonderful ways to celebrate, but watching a cozy rom-com is paramount to celebrating well. Some of our Buttoned staff has compiled a list of our favorite Valentine’s Day-adjacent movies that are sure to sweeten the day!

Ruthann Daniel
Your Favorite Romantic Comedy: The Proposal

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds alone are enough to win over even the harshest of romcom skeptics, the movie is set in the quaintest little Alaskan town, and the humor and chemistry are unparalleled.

Favorite character/line in the film: “How could I? We were in the middle of talking about you for the last three years.” -Andrew Paxton

Greta Gessert

Favorite Romantic Comedy: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

I think this is the most quintessential rom-com. It has such a fun premise, the right amount of “misunderstanding,” and so many iconic scenes. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey singing “She’s So Vain” at a gala? Too good.

Favorite character/line in the film: “Our love fern! It’s dead!” -Andie Anderson

Maddie McNamee
Favorite Romantic Comedy: 10 Things I Hate About You

Heath Ledger, angsty teen drama, and a paintball scene. What's not to love?

Favorite character/line in the film: “I hate the way that I don’t hate you. Not even close. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.” -Kat Stratford

Honorable Mention: Valentine’s Day

Aptly-named after the holiday celebrating love, this film celebrates different types and nuances of love with an impressive cast featuring Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutchur, Julia Roberts (and so many more). Valentine’s Day is a movie absolutely rife with red and pink, flowers, and hilarity as storylines intertwine similarly to the film Love Actually.
