As she adjusted her neck scarf, Isabel Kazan looked nothing short of a 1970’s movie star. Contrary to her Hollywood allure, Isabel’s style is all about practicality and comfort. With a delicious piece of Lula Jane’s pie in front of her, she sat down to tell us how her minimalistic yet one of a kind style makes her this week’s So Hot Right Now.
How would you describe your style?
This is so lame, but I would say classic with an eccentric twist. I really like tailored, seamless pieces with a good pair of jeans, but I also like throwing in color. It’s usually something fun like this neck scarf that I’m wearing, which has red in it.
Do you have a specific style icon?
Definitely Jane Birkin. Her style is just quintessential, French, classic, next-door neighbor girl. She’s very natural and beautiful in a subtle way. Her clothes come across as beautiful and simple yet very alluring. She looks like she has it all together, but in reality, she probably didn’t try that hard to put her outfit together.
If you could steal any celebrity’s style, who would it be?
Emma Watson. I want everything she wears! She pulls off everything. You could honestly put her in a paper bag, and she would look great.
What’s your favorite article of clothing and why?
Oooh, I don’t know. I’m very bipolar with my clothes. I think the thing I wear the most is actually an accessory, my Madewell tote. I never used to wear a purse. Then I came to college, and I had all this stuff I needed to carry. I wanted to have something that transitioned well from class to the weekend. This bag looks so good when it’s distressed, so I feel like the longer I’ve had it the more I love it.
Where do you typically shop for clothes?
Most of my clothes come from Anthropologie or Madewell. I also shop at a few one of a kind boutiques in my hometown.
Tell me about the boutiques in your hometown.
My favorites are Hemline and Eros. Eros has a lot of high fashion stuff with really great sales. I bought a pair of frame jeans for 50 dollars once.
How do you think your style has changed since Freshman Year?
Oh, it’s changed trust me! Coming out of high school, I went through a Free People phase. Their clothes are more statement pieces, but I would try to wear them as my everyday style. Baylor is a little more casual, so I definitely had to change my style to fit a more everyday, wearable vibe. Through that shift, I found that I really loved the French, classic style of blue jeans, white T-shirts, and stripes.
What trends are you currently into?
I love neck scarves! It’s not a new trend. Jane Birkin really made it famous.
Okay, last and probably the most important question. What’s your favorite kind of pie?
Coconut Cream Pie for sure!
