How would you describe your style in five words?

Slightly ironic, mildly eclectic, fairly trendy, occasionally humorous, and either really colorful or all black.

What is your favorite way to express your style?

With my hair and makeup! My hair is constantly changing because I think it’s so fun to experiment with color and styles -- hair grows back, so why not go for it? Also, side note, please ignore my nails; they’re red from hair dye.*laughs* I also love to wear colored eye looks. I’m not great at makeup, but a little blue eye shadow every now and then really jazzes things up.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Growing up, my mom and I didn’t have a lot of money, so most of my clothes were second-hand, and as a child, you feel embarrassed about that. I used to play pretend dress-up and envision myself in the clothes all the other girls were wearing. Now that I’ve grown up and developed my own style, I want to make “little me” proud and unashamed of thrifting and wearing whatever I want. Overall, fashion is still an act of dress-up for me, so I wear whatever, whenever. I also like to joke that my main goal is to wear clothes that make conservative moms upset (and I mean conservative in the sense of modesty). If I’m not getting dirty looks from moms at HEB for my crop tops, boots, mini skirts, etc., then I haven’t done enough.

Where are some of your favorite places to shop?

Oh my god, I’m addicted to ASOS. My bank account hates it, but I love it. I also like Zara, Nasty Gal, and Adika, but I’m trying to avoid fast fashion as much as possible for ethical and sustainable reasons, so more than half of my closet is actually thrifted, mostly from Salvation Army. Oh, and my biggest piece of advice for shopping: invest in basics and thrift trends.

Who do you look up to for fashion inspo?

Chloe Felopulos (@chloe.felopulos), Emma Winder (@emmaxwinder), Amy Hallimond (@amyhallimond), and I don’t know her name, but her Instagram is @wuzg00d. Look at how fabulous they all are. Are you kidding me? If I ever have disposable income, I hope to look as cool as them.

What is your favorite way to accessorize?

Rings! They’re so fun and easy. I’ve been into chunky, thrifted rings, and I swear it’ll change the whole vibe of the outfit if you just stuff your fingers with them. I also think of tattoos as permanent accessories, and I can’t wait to get more to sort of spice up my look and reflect my personality more.
