One of our very own Buttoned editors, Josie Gruber, brings a unique sense of fashion to the table. While developing her style throughout college, she has created a retro and fun aesthetic in her wardrobe. Her love for music is demonstrated in the outfits she pieces together, and that is why she is today’s So Hot Right Now.

Who do you look to for style inspiration?

I get a lot of inspiration from the music I listen to. It’s not necessarily the artist’s style, but the way the music feels. As my music taste got better, I started dressing better. I was late to the party, but Mac DeMarco forever changed my look. I also watch a lot of YouTube, so I get inspiration from people like Zoe Sugg, Brooke Miccio, and Claudia Sulewski. I look at the Instagram explore page a lot too. I also get inspiration from my parents and their college fashion. They were stylin. Still are.

How would you describe your style?

I don’t really know how to describe it. Sometimes it’s very simple and clean. Other times, it’s the complete opposite. I like to play around with skater style, but I also love the dainty look as well. I like to put outfits together that are kind of weird but kind of work...at least in my eyes. But overall, I guess I would say retro.

What is your favorite brand?

I don’t think I really have a favorite brand. I get a lot of my clothes from Marshalls or Goodwill and just look for cool pieces. I do like to look at Revolve though. I can’t afford anything there, but it’s good for finding inspiration. Lonely Ghost is really cool too.

What is one accessory you cannot live without?

Probably my jewelry. Everything has a memory associated with it or a special meaning, so I keep them on me at all times.

Sneakers. Most of my outfits are based around my shoes. Jean jackets are a necessity as well.

“Without Me” By Rayland Baxter.

How has your fashion evolved since coming to Baylor?

I didn’t really have a personal style before coming to college. The first semester I was here, I basically only wore shorts and tank tops because I wasn’t used to the heat. When I finally adjusted, it was fun to be able to dress however I wanted, rather than dressing for the cold, like I did at home. I’m a pretty quiet person, so I wanted something to set me apart and kind of speak for me, and fashion did that. I started putting together weird outfits just for fun, but ended up liking them and never looked back. Each semester, my style has changed a lot, but it’s really fun to see where it goes, and the foundation always stays the same.
