Delanie Griffin makes a statement in anything she puts on. She is able to express her love of fashion in and out of the classroom with her edgy sense of style that she has cultivated. Driven, outgoing and not afraid to wear what she wants are only a few reasons why she is this week’s So Hot Right Now!

How would you describe your style?

Growing up, I was always invested in what I wore and played around with a lot of different styles. I finally found my true style around my senior year of high school. My mom likes to call it “street chic,” and I think that describes it perfectly. I layer A LOT. I love being able to pair many different pieces together and creating different outfits.

What is your go-to outfit?

I typically wear oversized hoodies, graphic t-shirts, sweatpants, unique jackets and flannels, but occasionally I’ll throw in a more feminine looking edge. My go-to outfits are baggy pants with a cool crop top, jacket or flannel and sneakers, or a layered graphic tee with fitted joggers or jeans.

What are your go-to places to shop?

I get most of my pieces from a variety of places. Some of my favorite pieces have come from thrift shops or have been gifted to me. However, I would have to say my absolute go-to places are Urban Outfitters, Zara, Grailed, and more recently, Lonely Ghost, which has become my new obsession.

How has fashion played a role in your life and where do you see it taking you?

Fashion has always been a huge passion of mine. Ever since I was a little girl, I was drawn to clothes and fashion. I always put thought and time into what I wore and spent much of my free time watching runway shows, sketching and concocting different outfits for myself. I even chose to do my high school senior thesis over fashion expression. I did not originally come to Baylor as a design major. I was actually a merchandising major until I took my first sewing class my freshman year. I instantly fell in love with the design process and switched my major as quickly as I could, which ended up being the best decision I have ever made. Fashion has been and will always be a huge part of my life. Although I don’t exactly know what I will be doing after I graduate, I do know that it will be something involving fashion. I am so excited to see what the future holds for me.

Favorite piece in your closet right now?

Okay, so this is a very hard question for me to answer. I have a couple pieces that I am absolutely obsessed with and will wear for many more years, but if I had to choose one piece, it would be my oversized Vetements T-shirt with slits on the side that I bought in London while studying abroad in the summer of 2018. This shirt has absolutely been my go-to, and I can style it so many different ways. I have worn it countless times, and it has such great quality that it is still in awesome condition. This piece is easily one, if not the best, of my purchases.

Who is your style inspiration?

Right now, my favorite stylist is Maeve Reilly. She styles many celebrities including Hailey Bieber, Megan Fox, Ciara and numerous others. However, her personal style is absolutely insane. She wears a lot of oversized edgy pieces and sneakers but always adds a feminine twist. Most of my inspiration for my personal style stems from her. I also love NBA style, such as Lebron James, Russell Westbrook and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They all absolutely kill the fashion game. I love seeing what they wear while arriving to their games and also their overall street style. I have gained so much inspo from them as well.

What is some advice you would give to someone who is afraid to experiment with their style?

My advice would be to do what feels right for you. Everyone has different styles and different tastes. I used to worry too much about being judged for what I was wearing in high school, but once I got to college, I stopped caring about what other people thought about my style. I decided to wear what I wanted and became more confident by taking more fashion risks, which I wasn’t able to do before. The more confident you are in what you’re wearing, the more people will start to notice and appreciate it. All that matters is how you feel in your clothes; so wear what gives you that cool confident feeling and never look back.
